By organising a license system we can secure the diversity of our environment: for instance, Juuka is surrounded by nature preserves, and licensing ensures that rare species and protected species of plants or wildlife are not put at risk. Fishing licences in turn help us to protect valuable or protected species of fish. By obtaining license for hunting or fishing the ecosystem is not overworked and we are able to live in harmony with nature.

Iso-Karhu - Fishing and Hiking in Nature

The area of Iso-Karhu (The Big Bear) consists of the Iso-Karhu lake, which is surrounded by virgin Karelian forests and sloping hills. The area of the Iso-Karhu offers fishing locations for fly-fishermen & traditional anglers. There are also several hiking routes in the area. Accommodation is also available nearby. The Hut Village / The River of Vaikko - Fishing, rafting and paddling

In the shadows of Juuka, the Hut Village of Menninkäinen offers fishing licenses, boat rentals, canoes, kayaks, a hut-sauna and an overnight hut for 3-5 persons offered for 45€ for the night (next days fee is 25€/day). The Hut Village is located on the outskirts of the village of Vaikko in Juuka, on the shore of the Vaikko lake. The 90 km long river Vaikko starts from the Vaikko lake and has over 40 areas with powerful rapids. The vaikko river also hosts salmon trouts and graylings for the avid fishermen. A must visit for adventure and thrill seekers and fishermen alike!
